In one of my favorite christian singer’s songs, Lauren Daigle, (my go to playlist) says, “Look up Child” and here’s my spin. We get bogged down with the everyday, same old same daily routines. Often we get even more bogged down with struggles, troubles, and doubts. In the day to day and the struggles I find often I get stuck looking “down” or just focusing on the same spot instead of working through it- no solution in mind just stuck and wallowing.
Recently I’ve been looking “UP”. The most obvious and ultimate UP for me is turning to GOD in prayer, spending time with my bible or in devotions. What a GREAT distraction – but bigger than that a path, a plan, an answer. Giving things up to HIM where I know the future is already decided and to have trust.
Looking down as we walk, we bump into stuff, and there is a lot to bump into. Looking up and seeing what’s in front of us and planning the path makes sense and we end up with less bruising. Eyes down and stuck I miss a lot going on around me, the everyday moments with my youngest daughter that will be leaving for college soon, the smile of one of my students, a sunset. These very things I miss are the things that I need to notice most.
Into the new year I go and Ms. Daigle if you’re reading, I’ll keep listening to your music and this child is looking UP.
